Carbon Capture, Utilization (CCU)

Asia Cement cooperated with domestic and international academic and research institutes to develop a negative carbon technology, a technology different from the ordinary concept of carbon capture by combining wastes and carbon dioxide to become negative material and providing to ready-mixed concrete plants to solve three problems including carbon emission reduction, waste treatment and resource shortage. Asia Cement will join with Ya Tung Ready-mixed Concrete and the related down stream industrial chain to study and evaluate the separation and reuse of waste concrete, plus invest into industrial by-products or waste recarbonation technologies to produce negative carbon recycled aggregates or supplementary cementitious materials (SCM) and used by down stream industrial chain, to realize the integration of low carbon value industrial chain. Not only does it give innovative value to wastes, but it can also further produce concrete products with lower carbon emissions, achieving the “collaborate carbon reduction” effect across the cement-related industry chain, creating new sustainable business opportunities.

Continuing to invest in the research of technologies and moving toward net-zero carbon emission

Asia Cement continues to invest in the analysis of net-zero emission strategies and related technical research for cement industry. The execution content of the Net-Zero Emission Working Group of the Corporate Sustainability Promotion Committee in 2023 includes:

  • The paper "Research and Analysis of the Cement Industry's 2050 Net Zero Emissions Roadmap Calculation Methodology" was presented at the Green Technology and Engineering Practice Seminar of the Industrial Development Administration, Ministry of Economic Affairs. The paper delved into how the cement industry can establish goals and plan carbon reduction strategies through scientific methods. The paper referenced various carbon reduction measures from the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) Net-zero Roadmap and conducted research based on practical experience in the domestic cement industry. This paper is not only a commitment from ACC to the future, but also a key guideline for the development direction of the entire industry.
  • Chief Vice Plant Manager of Asia Cement Hualien Plant, Tse-sheng Chen, formed a “Cement and Concrete Net Zero Technology Committee” in 2021 at Taiwan Concrete Institute (TCI) and taking the position of chairman. The members of the Committee are composed of people from domestic cement manufacturing, concrete production, design and construction areas, a cooperation between industry and academic sector. The Committee is actively following the carbon reduction policy of the nation and the trend of net zero goal to study and plan the applications of newly emerged technologies in order to steadily realize the transformation to low carbon.
